Snowy Baby Quilt

I did it!!!!  I finished the baby quilt that I have been working on this past weekend while I was using up my vacation time for this year.

Here is a close up of the center block:

Here is a close up of the appliqued snowflakes:

This baby quilt is for our friends, Steve and Darlene, who are expecting their first child (a son) in early February.  Since he will be a winter baby, and since his parents also snowmobile with us, I thought it would be cool to make this snowflake quilt for them.  I know it will be appreciated!

UPDATE: My DH (dumb hubby this time) told Steve about the baby quilt.  He did not think anything of it since it is for Darlene's baby shower.  I was mad at him considering it will be Steve's son too!  Men just don't think sometimes.  Anyways, Steve was over on Tuesday and Jay wanted me to show it to him.  He absolutely LOVED it!  He also promised not to tell Darlene so at least she will be surprised about it!

My First Topsy Towel

I found the time to make my first topsy towel on Sunday.  I thought that these looked cool!  They took a little while to make but that is how it always is when attempting something new for the first time.

The hardest part about this whole project was trying to take a picture of it since my kitchen island is right in front of my stove!  LOL!

If you'd like to make one these for yourself, here are the project instructions from Embroidery Library, Topsy Towel.

There Goes My Raise This Year!

When my boss saw a bib that I made (the last one on Saturday's post), he needed me to embroider that saying on a shirt for his grand daughter.  He wanted to get his wife good with this one:

But he is always trying to get his wife going.  For instance, he has been asking her to make him a T-shirt quilt for years.  So to get her working on it again, he threatens to bring it into work and will pay me to make it for him.  So I do not want any bad marks against me with my boss' wife, so I decided to get him back by making this shirt for her:

Since I have opposite days off next week from my boss, I am going to wrap this up and leave it on his desk and have his wife's name on it with a note on it that she is not to open it until Christmas Day.  I don't want to ruin his surprise but I do want to get him back.  So, like this entry is titled, there goes my raise for this year!  LOL!

Embroidered Gift Items

I received some comments on my blog that some people wanted to see what I was making for Christmas gifts.  Well I dusted off the embroidery machine and made a some embroidered gifts for my hubby's co-workers.  Here they are:

Christmas Ornament

I found the pattern for this ornament on Embroidery Library.  If you are into machine embroidery, this is best website out there!  They have tons of designs that stitch out beautifully and are reasonably priced.  The back of this ornament is the same red and white dotted fabric as the front so you do not see the stitching.  If you are interested, here are the directions for making these ornaments.

Refrigerator Magnet

Framed Sayings

I made five different framed sayings so that everyone had a different one.  They read: Grow, Dream, Imagine, Shine and Live, Laugh and Love.  The last one is for some good friends of ours, Steve and Darlene who love snowmobiling just as much as we do.  It reads: "All my Friends are Flakes!"  Perfect!

I also had a surprise baby shower at work the other day so I embroidered some items for her and her baby.  Here they are:

Here are my two final embroidered items to share with you today.  I made these bibs for my co-worker's daughter who is 6 months old.

Thanksgiving

Christmas

Since my co-worker's father watches the baby during the week, I came across this design and I had to make it for her!

If anyone is interested in getting into machine embroidery or has any questions, please feel free to ask and I will be happy to help you.  But warning, like any other hobby, it can get expensive!  Between all the colors of thread, types of stabilizer, the embroidery machine, computer software and most importantly all the designs, the wallet will be empty!!!

Happy Stitching!

Teacher's Gifts

My sister asked me to make her two teacher's gifts for my nephews' teachers for Christmas this year.  I made them each 6 cards and I put them in the My Timeless Template called Captured Card Case.  These templates are wonderful and are such a great value for only $5 each.  If you can follow directions, you can make these templates.  What a better way to give away your homemade cards than in this case!

Here is the case:

More Samples from The Character Cafe

Since there were 12 digital images released this month at The Character Cafe, I could not wait to use them.  So I decided to play with them now instead of waiting to use them for Feature Fridays.  I still have more to color so there will be plenty of new images during the month.

Miss Priss

This image comes with 4 images variations.  One image is just of the cat and the other three include different sayings.  I cracked up laughing when I saw this sentiment!  It can be so fitting especially after a day of Christmas shopping at the mall!  LOL!  This card will be heading to Mary in Alabma for sure!  I even used my own sketch from Hump Day Inspiration for this one!

Cupcake Rosebud

This image was created by Maddy and they are called Chibis.  She created these Chibis as sculptures and Kendra and Kelly fell in love with them that they asked her if they could make them into digital images.  When they introduced them to us last month on the design team, they were welcomed with open arm and copics ready!  I was really excited to see that several were released along with a freebie (grab it here before it is gone).

Supplies:
Stamps: The Character Cafe - Miss Priss, The Character Cafe - Cupcake Rosebud, Papertrey Ink - Birthday Basics
Paper: PTI White, Gina K White, Old Olive, Real Red, Dashing DP, Basic Black, PTI Lavendar Moon, Unknown SU DP (received through Wish RAK)
Ink: Archival Jet Black, Copics
Accessories: Cuttlebug, Embossing Folder - D'Vine Swirls, Brads

Paper: PTI White, Basic Black, Pixie Pink, SU DP
Ink: Archival Jet Black, Pixie Pink, Copics
