Hubby's Third Pair of Socks

As you have previously read, I am on a sock knitting kick lately.  I have been very good about sharing with my hubby.  It was his turn for new socks.  Here they are:

This time I made them on 12" circulars by Chia Goo from the top down.  He liked the way these fit better than the toe up ones I have done for him in the past.  I bought 12" circulars for his socks because I was afraid that all those extra stitches (cast on of 72 versus 56) would be super cramped on the 9" circulars especially when I got to the gusset.

My next socks are for me!  Hmm, which pattern and yarn should I use?  You'll have to wait and see!

Sunday Swing Socks at Sunset

I've been on a sock knitting kick lately.  I figured if I was going to knit, let's make useful items for myself (or sometimes for hubby too).  This is my first attempt at a top down sock other than the sample socks I made several years ago.  Here they are:

These socks were also make using a new method to me, knitting them on 9" circular needles.  What???  9 inch???  Yes, you read it right.  They are the perfect length for knitting in the round and match the diameter of socks.  I first read about this from Stacey Trock from Freshstitches.  Want to read more about it, here are her blog posts #1 - Why a 9"? and #2 - Video: How to Knit Socks on 9" Circulars.

Here's a picture of my cast on:

Aren't they so cute!  To me, this is more efficient way of knitting socks over magic loop.  You do not have to keep adjusting your needles and turning your yarn bag.  I made these in a little over three weeks.  As you can see, I bought two sets of needles and I work them at the same time so I don't get second sock syndrome.

Where do you get these needles?  I got mine from an eBay store called Knit Bin.  They are HiyaHiya Sharps in size 1 (2.25 mm) for $9.25 each plus shipping.

If this has sparked some interest to you, please give it a try, you won't regret it!  If you do, please leave me a comment telling me about your experience and thoughts.  I love this method!

My Hubby's Second Socks

A couple of weeks ago, I finally finished my hubby's second pair of socks that I started in September 2012.  Here they are:

He loves them and wear them all the time!  I'm just not a big fan of the invisible bind off, it looks messy to me.  I am going to make him a third pair soon but I am going to make them top down this time.  I think they just look neater!

Easy Pattern for Self Striping Socks

Hey, remember me??!!  I know it has been a while but I am still here.

There has been some changes since my last blog post.  I have a great new job that I love so much!  I am now working as the Accounting Manager at Greater Springfield Credit Union.  It is such a relaxed work environment and it is a pleasant and welcomed change.  I have been here since May 19th but I have feel like I have been here forever already (in a good way).  I have been welcomed with open arm by everyone (all 20 employees) and I am looking forward to working here for a long time!

Now that life is more relaxed, I have time to get back into my hobbies.  Quilting has been put on hold for me for summer so I have gotten back into my knitting.  I wanted to make something productive, other than dishcloths, so I'm back to knitting socks.

Here is my latest project:

These socks were as part of the July challenge with the Sock Knitters Anonymous (SKA) group over on Ravelry.  These are my socks and I can't wait for them to dry so I can wear them.  I just finished them last night.  It only took me 3 weeks to make these too!

I am now working on some new socks for August's challenge with SKA for my hubby!

Yarn: Felici by Knit Picks in Afternoon

My New Croc Socks

Here is my first attempt at crocheting socks for myself.

Allow me to introduce my Croc Socks!

I had a pair of lined Crocs that were worn out.  So instead of buying new ones, I made some Croc socks to replace the current liners.  I love how they came out and how they feel on my feet!  I am going to make another pair for myself and one for my hubby.  When I showed my hubby them, he loved them and requested a pair for himself immediately.  He thought they were so cool and I agree!

Gavin's Christmas Socks

I was asked from my co-worker Tara to make her kids some thick socks for Christmas.  Here are the ones for her son, Gavin:

I sure hope these fit him!  he has rather large feet for a two year old.  I just hope they are too big so he can wear them instead of being too small.

Teagan's Christmas Socks

I was asked from my co-worker Tara to make her kids some thick socks for Christmas.  Here are the ones for her daughter, Teagan:

I made her some when I was learning to make toe up and top down socks but she outgrown them for this winter.  And of course, I made them in her favorite color, purple!

Hubby's First Socks

Here is the first pair of socks that I made for my hubby:

I feel so bad that it took so long to finish these socks!  I started them in August 2011 and just finished them this week.  Although they took a while, my hubby loved them and they fit perfectly.  He even wore them to work already!

Rose Quartz Sunrise Socks

Here is my first pair of socks that has a pattern to it:

I am knitting these for the Sock Knitter Anonymous group KAL (knit along) for July 2011.  The patterns that could be used were any from designer Wendy Johnson or using the technique of colorwork/intarisa or to participate in the mystery sock challenge.  Since I am still a newbie to knitting socks, I chose a rather easy pattern, but new to me, from Wendy Johnson.  It was not as difficult as I thought!  I will be exploring more patterns in the future.

Top-Down Sample Socks - The Match!

Here are the matches to the Sample Socks posted HERE:

Here are the two completed pairs for Miss Teagan!

After completing two pairs of top-down socks, I must say that both ways are just as easy.  I'm glad that I learned both ways so I can make any sock pattern now! :)  Now I am ready to make a top-down pair for myself.

Paprika Socks #2

I finally completed my second pair of paprika socks!

Top-Down Sample Socks

Here is my first pair of top-down socks:

I made these following the directions from the book listed below.  I am glad that I had some sock knitting experience before attempting to knit these.  I have a feeling that if I tried this way first that I would have been confused and possibly frustrated.  I am very happy with how these came out!

Now I'm off to make the matches for them!

Supplies:

Yarn: Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Solids #64020 - Pink & #63901 - Purple
Needles: US 4 on 47" Cables

Paprika Socks

Here is my latest pair of socks:

This is the first time that I have used fingering weight sock yarn.  It took a little while to get used to using really thin yarn and small needles.  I like how these came out!  Next time, I will be sure to check that they stripping is the same on both socks before beginning.  It's no big deal but I would like to try to make them identical next time!

My Rouge Socks!

On Sunday night, I finished my second pair of socks.  Here they are:

These knitted very quickly since I did not have to carefully watch every video first.  This time when I did the invisible bind-off, I paid extra atttention to not pull my stitches tight so I would be able to pull them on easier.  I am very happy with these!

Last night I started my first pair using fingering weight yarn!  I'm so excited!!!

My First Socks - Part Seven - DONE!!!

Yippeee, I'm done!  I have completed my very first pair of socks!!!

Here they are on my feet:

Don't they look good (for my first pair)!

These were not as hard as I thought to make!  I am looking forward to making many more in the near future!  So to reward myself for my latest accomplishment, Knit Picks is having a sale on sock yarn until May 4th so I bought enough sock yarn for 12 more pairs!  I love presents!!!

My First Socks - Part Five - Turning the Heel

Next I am knitting the ankle to the cuff for 5 inches!  We are in teh home stretch now!!!

My First Socks - Part Four - Knitting the Gusset

Knitting the gusset:

This part was a litle different.  You increased the front side of your socks while keeping the back side the same.  I ended up with 26 stitches in the front and 14 in the back.

Next, I will be turning the heel.

My First Socks - Part Three - Knitting the Foot

The next step was to knit the foot.  Here it is:

You know that it is complete when the top of the stitches reached the front of your ankle, with your foot flexed.

Next, I will knit the gusset!
