Airplane Quilt

Here is a quilt that was ordered by a co-worker for her one year old nephew.

She requested airplanes, boyish colors, no flower prints, no orange, no pink and no purple.  So I think I covered it rather well.  This pattern took a little longer than normal since I am attempting to work with more detailed pieced blocks.  This pattern is called Stitched Leaves Pattern and I got it over at Connecting Threads.  Grab your copy of the block pattern HERE!  Instead of fussy cutting the centers, I embroidered two different airplanes for half of them and left white centers for the rest.

More Pictures!

Here are some more pictures of Sebastian from last weekend.

We spent the majority of last weekend at home cleaning and doing things that needed to get done.  So we got to spend some quality time with him.  Since we bought him the proper lighting for his cage, he looks more alert, brighter and happier!  He is very calm and loves to be held!  He was even sitting on my shoulder while I was making some cards.

I have discovered that he loves collard green, shredded carrots and shredded butternut squash.  He also took a swim in his water bowl and splashed water all along the sides of his cage.

I totally love the way he sleeps.  When the lights go out, he falls asleep where ever he is.  The other night, he was half on the branch and half on the ground.  We woke him up and moved him because that did not look comfortable.

He is becoming a great addition to this family!!!

Simple Secrets - Nancy Mehl

Summary from Good Reads: Can graphic designer Gracie Temple have it all: the big city life and a job at a successful advertising firm? Just when she feels life coming together she receives an unknown uncle’s inheritance in a quiet Kansas Mennonite community. The house comes with a dark legacy and a cast of interesting neighbors, including farmer Sam Goodrich. Can Gracie shake off the dust of this town or will its secret charms pull her in to stay?

Gracie had a lot to deal with inside this small Mennonite town called Harmony.  She went there with the intentions of dealing with her uncle's estate.  Once she got there, she learned of a secret that her uncle had been keeping for several years.  The thing is, there are people in Harmony who did not want these secrets revealed.

Along the way, she falls in love with the town, the people and even Sam.  Sam was the neighbor's nephew who guided Gracie through Harmony and became a wonderful friend.  Together they were determined to uncover the truth explained in her uncle's note.  Lots of people in Harmony had devasting secrets and the more Gracie dug into the past, the more was revealed.  In the end, Gracie, Sam and the whole community came together.

This was a heartfelt story about family, friends, love, community and truth.  It shows how holding back the truth can have a terrible affect on everyone around you as well as yourself for holding it inside for so long.

I honestly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more in Nancy Mehl's second book called Simple Deceit which is coming out in early 2011.  A special thanks to Net Galley and Barbour Publishing, Inc for allowing me to review this book for them.

Meet Sebastian!

This is Sebastian, my 1-1/2 year old bearded dragon!

I purchased him from someone on Craigslist who needed to get rid of him since they are moving to an apartment that does not allow pets.  I have wanted one every since I saw one at Claws N' Paws zoo in Pennsylvania last 4th of July.  Jay and I started pricing everything that was needed to get started and it was way more than we wanted to spend.  So we started watching Craigslist instead so I could give a bearded dragon a second chance at a good home.

We brought him home on Tuesday night after an hour and a half ride in the car.  I think it may have stressed Sebastian out a little bit.  Rusty, our dog, is having a hard time dealing with him.  Since his cage is on our old coffee table and is the right height for him, he walks around the cage and whines at Sebastian.  I don't think he knows what to think of him!  All he knows is that his mommy is crazy!  LOL!

This is him hunting.  We stopped at a pet store on Wednesday night and got him some more things along with 20 crickets.  OMG, he loved it!  He had so much fun and it was rather fun to watch too!
